What is Aadhaar Card and why is it necessary?

• Aadhaar Card is a 12 digit individual
  identification Number issued by UIDAI on behalf
  of the Government of India that serves as a proof
  of identity and address, anywhere in India. It
  will help you to provide access to services like
  banking, mobile phone connections and other Govt.
  and Non-Govt. services in due course.

• The Government of India has made it mandatory for
  every individual to enroll for this once.

Are there any charges for enrolment?

• No, its free of cost for all Indian citizens.

What is the objective of UID in India?

• It is unique and robust enough to eliminate the
  large number of duplicate and fake identities in
  the government and private databases.

What all information is required for the Aadhaar
card?

• KYR fields including name, address, gender and
  date of birth, name and address verification
  proof, photograph clicked at the center along
  with 10 fingerprints and an iris image.

How long does it take to process the Aadhaar card
after applying?

• The normal specified processing time is 60 to 90
  days approximately, however, the e-Aadhaar is
  usually available anywhere between a week to a
  month, once the details are verified and the
  Aadhaar number is printed accordingly.
