Jamia Millia Islamia
Established in Aligarh, Jamia Millia Islamia
(JMI) is a central university that relocated to
Delhi in 1925. Besides, the University is worthy
of its NIRF 2020 rankings, which place it 16th
overall and 10th among top universities in
India. JMI has undergraduate, graduate, and
doctoral programs in various fields, such as
arts, sciences, commerce, hospitality,
technology, management, etc. Additionally, it
provides distance learning programs apart from
full- time programs. Furthermore, it operates an
International Exchange Program in coordination
with several foreign universities. JMI
researchers have also built a solar-powered
disinfection tunnel to combat Covid-19. The
campus is scattered out over a wide field, and
most of the structures are being revolutionized.
It is also a part of the Association of Indian
Universities (AIU) and has an "A" grade from the
National Assessment and Accreditation Council
(NAAC). Additionally, the University
participated in the green movement and also,
installed 2,250-kilowatt solar panels on campus.

HISTORY
Jamia Millia Islamia was established in Aligarh
on 29 October 1920 by Mohammad Ali Jauhar, Hakim
Ajmal Khan, Mukhtar Ahmed Ansari, Abdul Majeed
Khwaja, and Zakir Hussain under the presidentship
of Mahmud Hasan Deobandi. It was established
mainly in response to the demand of some
students of the Aligarh Muslim University for a
new National Muslim University which would be
free from government influence as they felt that
the administration of Aligarh Muslim University
was of pro-British stance. It was conceived as a
national institution that would offer progressive
education and an emphasis on Indian nationalism
to students from all communities, particularly
Muslims. Zakir Hussain described "the movement of
Jamia Millia Islamia as a struggle for education
and cultural renaissance that aims to prepare a
blueprint for Indian Muslims which may focus on
Islam but simultaneously evolve a national
culture for common Indian. It will lay the
foundation of the thinking that true religious
education will promote patriotism and national
integration among Indian Muslims, who will be
proud to take part in the future progress of
India, which will play its part in the comity of
nations for peace and development. The objective
of establishment of Jamia Millia Islamia will be
to lay down the common curriculum for Indian
Muslims taking into account the future
challenges and will prepare the children to be
masters of future The emergence of Jamia was
supported by Mahatma Gandhiand Rabindranath
Tagore who felt that Jamia Millia Islamia could
shape lives of hundreds and thousands of
students on the basis of a shared culture and
worldview.

INFRASTRUCTURE
Online Admission Jamia accepts all the admissions
online on its official website. Besides, all the
information related to admission, courses offered
is easily accessible on its website. Library Jami
a Milia's Zakir Hussain Central library has
around 3.70 lac books, and, besides, it holds
1275 readers. Additionally, it has an e-journal,
digital e- resources, a learning center for
visually disabled students, and Knimbus, and
multiple databases. Hostel The University has the
proper in campus accommodation for girls and boys
separately. It has well-equipped facilities,
such as mess, WIFI, reading spaces, solar
heaters for restrooms, Gymnasium, and a canteen
as well as beauty services. Sports Campus JMI
focuses on student's growth in sports and has
various courts, for example, hockey grounds,
fitness centre, cricket fields, etc. Sports
facilities that are not available at Jamia
University, such as shooting, swimming,
wrestling, and boxing, are available to eligible
athletes at sports venues outside Jamia Millia
Islamia.

Laboratories The University has various
laboratories for students to work in their
respective fields, such as computer lab,
chemistry lab, physics lab, language lab, etc.
Apart from the above-mentioned facilities, it
also has a gym, cafe, bank,
healthcare, wi-fi, post office and lastly,
auditorium. Placements at Jamia Millia
Islamia Jamia Millia Islamia has a phenomenal
placement cell that also works to find the right
job prospects for its students. In addition, the
University has a placement site where potential
students can apply for the drives. Students from
almost any department who join the recruitment
drives are placed. Every year in October, the
recruitment drive starts. In the year 2020, 52
businesses took part in the drive, offering 257
positions to the University's students. The peak
salary package was INR 41 LPA, while the average
salary package stood at INR 5 LPA. The largest
CTC had risen from INR 18 LPA in 2019 to INR 41
LPA in 2020. Companies such as Adobe Systems,
SpringBoard, Zee Entertainment, Trident India
were the top recruiters for the recruitment
process.

Courses
Currently, the University provides over twenty
UG, PG, and Ph.D. programs in a variety of
disciplines. Besides, it provides diploma,
advanced diploma, degree, and PG diploma
programs in a range of areas, to illustrate,
Engineering, Pharmacy, Language, Law,
Journalism, and others. On the contrary, the
period of the courses differs depending on the
course. Admission to all courses is dependent on

Courses University provides a wide range of
undergraduate courses, for example, B. Tech, BE,
B.Arch, B.Sc, etc. Applicants must have cleared
102 from any recognized board additionally,
JMI conducts its entrance exam also. However,
admission to BTech and BArch programs is
dependent on JEE Main results, and a valid NEET
UG exam score is a must to qualify for the BDS
program. PG Courses To enrol in any PG
programmes, for example, MBA, MA, LLM and MTech,
an applicant must clear the JMI entrance test.
However, the selection criteria for other PG
courses are merit- based. Any applicant with a
bachelor's degree in the related field is
eligible to qualify for PG courses. In either
case, the final placement of students is
dependent on their performance in the respective
qualifying/entrance test. Ph.D. Courses/Mphil An
applicant must clear the GATE entrance test to
get admission to MPhil/Ph.D. programs can be
achieved via the GATE test. Applicants with a
master's degree in any relevant subject field
can apply for the MPhil/Ph.D. courses. However,
the selection of students is dependent on their
entrance exam results. Diploma Courses Applicants
with decent scores in class 12 can apply for
diploma, advanced diploma, and certificate
courses. Likewise, to qualify for the PG diploma
program, an applicant must have a bachelor's
degree in the appropriate field. However, the
final selection is based on their performance in
the relevant qualifying test.
