Rotator cuff is a group of muscles or tendons
that surrounds the shoulder joint, it keeps the
head of the upper arm bone within the socket of
the shoulder. Any injury to the rotator cuff can
cause a dull ache in the shoulder which might get
worst by over use of Arm away from the
body.  Rotator cuff injuries are common injuries
that can increase with age. Rotator cuff injuries
can also occur in people who have jobs that
require repetitive overhead movements.  The
injuries to the rotator cuff are most probably
the rotator cuff tear. It occurs when any one of
the muscles that form the rotator cuff is
damaged, Otherwise, the tendons that go all the
way through the cuff get pulled or damaged. The
rotator cuff is a commonly injured area of the
body and could be considered a fragile
area.

Causes of Rotator Cuff injuries
The rotator cuff pathology may range from mild to
severe. The most common causes are due to
strains, tendinitis and bursitis.
Tendinitis is an injury caused by overuse of the
rotator cuff, this leads to inflammation in the
rotator cuff. This might be due to excessive use
of overhead movements. Bursitis is a common
rotator cuff problem that is caused by the
inflammation of the Bursa present inside the
shoulder. Bursae are fluid-filled sac that is
present between the bones.

Strains - rotator cuff strain or tear are caused
by over use for any acute injury. The common
rotator cuff strains are due to any fall, car
accident, fall at home or work place or any
sudden injury. These strains and pulls typically
cause intense pain.
The generalized causes include -

• Overuse of the shoulder joint irrespective of
  appropriate posture and position.
• Sudden strains or accident to shoulder joint.
• Muscle or tendon pulls.
• Falls at home or work place
• Gym injuries
• Sports injuries

Symptoms of Rotator Cuff injuries-

• Pain while moving the arm in certain ways.
• Weakness in the shoulder.
• Dull ache while performing above shoulder
  movements.
• Unable to lift heavy things.
• Disturbed sleep.
• Tenderness in the shoulder especially at night.
• Trouble reaching behind the back.
