WHAT IS A PEDIATRICIAN, AND WHAT DO THEY DO?
  • - By American University of Antigua College Of
    Medicine

2
What is a Pediatrician?
  • Pediatric means relating to the branch of
medicine dealing with children and their diseases
and pediatric specialist that deals with children
    problems is called as Pediatrician.
  • A paediatrician is a doctor who specialises in
the care of babies, children, and teenagers. They
are well-versed in diseases that affect children
and adolescents, and they aim to identify and
treat common juvenile illnesses and injuries.
Some physicians also study the efficacy of novel
    therapies and drugs in youngsters.

3
What skills are needed to become a pediatrician?
  • Pediatric specialties will often be working with
children who cant explain their conditions well,
it is important for these doctors to have
    patience and good communication skills.
  • Communication is also crucial for physicians who
must share medical information with parents so
that they may make educated decisions about their
    children's treatment.

4
What does a pediatrician do?
  • The normal activities of most paediatricians who
operate as primary care doctors will be fairly
similar to those of an internist.
  • Pediatricians will ask inquiries to identify
    underlying medical conditions, educate patients
and their families about correct care and disease
    management, write appropriate pharmaceutical
prescriptions, and refer patients to other
    experts as needed.
  • However, because their patients are generally too
young to comply with any prescribed therapies or
drugs on their own, the process of diagnosing,
treating, and managing medical issues is
challenging. As a result, physicians must recruit
the assistance of parents, guardians, or other
family members to assist in the management of
    diseases or injuries.
  • They must also ensure that everyone caring for an
adolescent patient is adequately informed about
the dangers connected with any diseases that are
    diagnosed.
