  • Guide to Tooth Extraction and Recovery
  • According to the latest research reports, an
estimated 85 of wisdom teeth eventually need to
be removed. It may be the most significant dental
surgery that many will undergo eventually.
  • Reflecting its holistic approach, our team at
Destination Dentaire wants you to know what to
expect and how to have a smooth recovery after
    your teeth are extracted.
  • What To Expect During Recovery After Tooth
    Extraction
  • In most cases, teeth extraction is a routine
procedure, and complications are rare. You might
not expect major discomfort, but it will surely
take a few days to recover completely. The number
of teeth that were extracted can also be a major
    factor in your post-surgery experience.
  • Pain As the anesthesia wears off, you can expect
to feel pain at the extraction site. Your doctor
will mostly prescribe you painkillers so you feel
    comfortable.
  • Bleeding Some bleeding at the extraction site is
quite normal. Your doctor will put a cotton
gauze where the teeth are removed to restrict the
bleeding. You can replace the gauze every few
hours till the bleeding subsides. Our dentist at
Destination Dentaire will provide you full
    instructions.
  • Swelling In addition to some pain, patients
might also experience swelling however, it will
vary from person to person. If the swelling does
not subside easily, you can use a pack of frozen
peas cold packs on the outside of the face to
    reduce swelling.
  • Nausea Now, this is a very rare aftereffect, but
some patients might experience nausea after
tooth extraction. It should quickly subside, but
if it does not, you should contact your family
  • dental clinic as soon as possible.

For the first 24 hours, you should prefer soft
and liquid food such as jelly, mashed potatoes,
applesauce, yogurt, broth-based soups, scrambled
eggs, and pancakes. Also, you can eat smoothies
and ice creams but without any crunchy or chewy
candy pieces. Gradually, as you get better, you
can switch to normal food as and when you begin
to feel comfortable with your health. Tooth
extraction can take weeks to recover from fully
thus, it is crucial to maintain a strict regime
of hygiene activities that your family dental
clinic has advised. In case of a problem or
sudden pain, you must immediately revert back to
soft foods and talk to your family dental clinic
at the earliest.
