Locum insurance for opticians is something in
which every optician practice should invest. You
can never foresee when someone is going to go
sick in your practice, whether that is the
optometrist or another member of the team. If
someone is only away for a few days you may be
able to cover that internally, but it is quite
possible for people to be away from work for
weeks or even months. Even if you are a small
practice and only have one optometrist, you can
cancel appointments for a few days, but it can
have a damaging effect on your practice if your
optometrist is away for any length of time. The
same can go for other staff members too. In a
small practice it can put a heavy workload on
other members of the team, so hiring staff to
take their place, or a locum optometrist is the
answer.

Unfortunately, locum optometrists are expensive.
This is why they work as locums because it means
that they can earn more. As you will know,
optometrists have to train for at least four
years and be registered with the General Optical
Council. Some optometrists go on to take further
training to allow them to treat common eye
conditions or prescribe medicine for conditions
affecting the eye and surrounding tissues. Your
practice may employ a dispensing optician. These
are also highly trained individuals who have to
undertake at least three years of academic and
practical training, and also be registered with
the GOC. They will advise on the best options for
the customers lifestyle, occupation, hobbies,
and suitability of their prescription, to make
sure that the customers glasses work and fit as
well as possible. They will also give advice on
how to best use and care for glasses and contact
lenses. You may also employ clinical assistants
and optical assistants who work under the
supervision of the practice manager. In addition,
of course, you have your reception staff. Any or
all of these people can be off work for a variety
of reasons, and this can lead to issues that will
require you to hire a locum in some circumstances
or take on some part time staff to cover for
other people in the practice.

This is why you need optician locum insurance
which will cover you for all of the extra
expenses involved when you need a locum or cover
for other members of your team. You may also have
an optometrist who has left your practice to work
at another, and there can be quite a delay hiring
a replacement. The job vacancy site Indeed has
recorded that nearly 70 of optometrist vacancies
on its site are still vacant two months
later. At Approachable Locum Insurance, our team
can find you the most suitable optician locum
insurance for your particular practice. No two
practices are exactly the same, and nor do they
all work in the same manner. That means that your
particular requirements for locum insurance may
be very different from another practice, so you
want a policy which covers you for what you need
as an individual practice and doesnt include
things that you dont need. There is no point in
paying for something that you dont need! All of
our optician locum insurance policies are
underwritten by Lloyds of London, so you can have
peace of mind that you are getting the best. Our
policies can cover any or all of the following
