15th century, you can still find these wrought

Cast Iron-
Towards the end of the 18th century, the rule of
wrought iron slowly died and cast iron took the
throne. Cast iron as per the definition is the
iron that is being melted, moulded and cooled
down. Owing to the industrial revolution people
started using machinery to carry out these
processes. Very soon, these cast-iron railings
became very popular. These cast-iron railings
were mostly used on stone boundaries and around
middle-class houses.

Aluminium Railings-
Soon after, just like wrought iron, the trend of
cast iron also started fading away mainly because
it was heavy and the number of resources started
declining. Therefore, the standard replacement of
cast iron, aluminium came into use. Aluminium was
a suitable replacement as it was lightweight,
economical and versatile. Also, availability was
never a problem. But, it was only during the time
of the Great Depression that the making of
aluminium railings started on an industrial
scale. It was during this period that the mass
production of aluminium started happening. And
thereafter, the trend of aluminium railings never
declined. To date, even the old designs of
aluminium railings are still in use in many
places. The use of these aluminium railings first
emerged in the 1940s.

Modern Aluminium Railings-
Till many centuries, the designs of aluminium
railings were made by man. But, today both
simple, as well as complex designs, are made
using machines and computers. Therefore,
aluminium railings are nowadays also used in
cable railings, horizontal railings and privacy
railings. Even though these aluminium railing
designs are now machine-made, a lot goes into
their manufacturing. Various analyses are
performed before these final designs of aluminium
railings are approved.
