1
How To Help Your Child Enjoy Their Dental
Checkups
2
Dental Care for Children
  • Dental care for children is crucial to setting
them up for a lifetime of healthy smiles.
  • But like adults, children might find a new
    environment uncomfortable.
  • So it isn't surprising if they arent thrilled
about being in the dental office.

3
  • Fortunately, There are Ways to Help Make Your
Childs Dental Visits Positive and Enjoyable, and
    Here are some of Them

4
Book an Early Morning Appointment
  • Children tend to be livelier and in a more
    positive mood in the morning.
  • Try to schedule a visit early in the day.
  • You dont want to be battling with a tired,
    sleepy, or hungry kid.

5
Do Some Dentist Role Play
  • Introduce your child to the dental team in a fun
    way. Play roles with them.
  • Let them be the dentist and be their patient.
Include their favorite stuffed toys in the game
too. Describe roles simply and shortly.
  • Show them what they can expect during their
    dental visit.

6
Watch Educational Shows Together
  • Look up entertaining videos teaching children
what a dental visit is like and how important
    daily mouth cleaning is.
  • A child should find dental care habits, such as
    brushing and flossing, enjoyable.
  • They might not like them at first, so be patient
and take a break if you need to.

7
Avoid Bribes
  • Use kind and gentle words when talking about
dental care. Refrain from using bribes to get
your child to brush their teeth.
  • Instead, show them how having clean and healthy
teeth can be beneficial for them. Its okay to
reward children for behaving well but dont hype
    it out.
  • Otherwise, they might think that dental care and
    dental visits are scary.

8
Stay Calm
  • Things might not go the way you want them. Your
child might refuse to cooperate or change their
    mind all of a sudden.
  • Either way, stay calm. Let your dental team know
if your child isnt in a great mood. It could be
better to reschedule than force the visit.
  • After all, your goal is to make the appointment a
    pleasant one.

9
  • Children love testing the patience of people
    around them, especially their parents.
  • Dont be embarrassed to talk about your concerns
about booking a dental visit for your child.
  • The dentists, dental hygienists, and dental staff
are there to offer help, support, and guidance.
