1
Tips to Maximise the Power of Packaging
HACKS
Make your team work smarter, not harder
2
Consider Essential Functional Requirements
  • In addition to the aesthetics of your package,
you should also consider the basic functional
requirements of your product. Consider the full
supply chain when designing packaging. The
product will travel from the product line to the
truck, then to the distribution facility, where
it will be palletized, unpalletized, and finally
    placed in local retail stores.
  • In addition to these basic functional
requirements, your package should be able to
    withstand rigorous transportation and storage
    environments.

3
Consider how the product will be used by your
Audience
When designing packaging for your products, you
should consider your audience's tastes and
demographic. What will appeal to your audience
depends on price range, sales channel, and
market. It's important to think about the people
who will buy your product and the way they will
use it. If you know what they want and are able
to offer them that, you're on the way to
designing great packaging for your products.
4
Pick a clear and Simple
Message
As you can imagine, the primary purpose of
packaging is to communicate a reason for a
customer to buy a product. This message can be
descriptive or emotional. For example, an
informed consumer may want to buy locally
produced food. Therefore, an organization focused
on local production may want to highlight this
on its packaging. For a more practical example,
a consumer who is looking for a new vacuum
cleaner may want to know if it is made locally.
5
Ensure your packaging is attractive and Stands
Out
When it comes to your packaging design, make sure
you take your brand's logo and color scheme into
account. It can be tempting to go overboard with
the design of your packaging, but make sure that
you stay within your brand's style guidelines.
For example, if you have a logo that's extremely
bright yellow, you may want to consider using a
similar yellow for your packaging. The same
holds true for your packaging design. In
general, you want the packaging to be easy to
read and attractive.
6
Don't Mislead your
Customers
The most obvious reason why you should not
mislead your customers when packaging your
products is that it can harm your company's
reputation. It can deceive your customers by
making your product look larger than it is or by
promising something it can't deliver. Not only
will this result in disgruntled customers, but it
can also cause negative word-of-mouth about your
brand that can ruin your business reputation.
