ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CESAREAN SECTION (C -
SECTION BIRTH)
The cesarean section also known as the C section
in medical terms is a surgical practice first
performed in the United States in 1794 by Dr.
Jesse Bennett on his wife Elizabeth in which both
her wife and the baby were alive. This is a
surgical procedure in which one or more babies
are delivered through an incision in the Mother's
abdomen rather than the vagina. Doctors perform
this operation when there are certain
complications in vaginal delivery such as high
blood pressure, twins' babies obstructed labor,
etc. The worldwide cesarean section rate has
raised from around 7 in 1990 to 21 today. It is
the most common surgery performed in the United
States. According to current medical evidence, a
mother can go for a maximum of three planned
cesareans for delivering his newborns.
Procedure-
In this surgical procedure, the patient is given
general anesthesia and the urine is drained using
a urine catheter and the abdomen is cleaned by an
antiseptic. The incision is done in the lower
abdomen of the mother which is about 6 inches in
length. Before reaching the uterus surgeon have
to cut five different layers of skin and then the
uterus. The baby is then taken out from the womb
of the mother by the surgeon. The incision is
then stitched and close. The mother can then
breastfeed the baby as soon as she is out of the
operation room and awake.
3
Recovery-
A mother under caesarian section experiences
cramps,  nausea, vomiting after the operation.
Mother may have reduced bowel movements for hours
to days. This thing is usually resolved without
any medication. Immediately after cesarean
section some complementary therapies such as
electromagnetic therapy or musical therapy
relieve the pain of the mother. Back pain or
abdomen pain maybe continue after this major
surgery. This may be reduced by taking
nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs which are
given by the consultant squats in the hospitals.
4
Measures to take after C section for fast
recovery-
  • Taking healthy nutrition
  •  Taking adequate nutrition is just as necessary
after your delivery as it was while you are
pregnant. Taking plenty of water hydrates your
body after the operation and Your breastfeeding
supply and also gives relief in constipation.
Research shows that eating green vegetables after
surgery provides better natural healing to your
incision, supports better health which is useful
for the body to overcome operational stress, and
also flavors the breast milk which increases your
    child's enjoyment and health.
  • 2. Taking plenty of rest
  •   Like other major surgeries in c-section, your
body needs a rest of about 6 to 7 weeks. Avoid
going up and downstairs as much as you can. Do
not lift anything heavier than your baby, this
might put stress on your incision and increase
the period of healing. Hold your abdomen whenever
you sneeze or cough to protect your incision site.

3. When to seek medical help
Any kind of swelling, redness, or pus oozing from
the incision site is an indication of visiting a
doctor urgently. Pain around the site,
bad-smelling discharge from the vagina, high
fever are also symptoms to take medical
help. Difficulty in breathing, chest pain, or
pain in your breast are some symptoms if ignored
lead to serious complications so consults the
doctor immediately. 4. Avoid stannous exercise
in your routine but do walk gently. 5. Wait to
have sex or use tampons. When the professionals
go for Cesarean-
1. Large baby weight of more than 4.5 kg. 2.
Placental problems such as Placenta previa,
placental abruption, or placental accreta,
etc. 3. Umbilical cord abnormality. 4. Failed
labor induction.
6
5. High blood pressure of mother which causes
risk in vaginal delivery. 6. Prolonged labor. 7.
Previous urine rupture.
These are some complication which arises during
labor so the surgeon has to go to the surgical
procedure.
Benefits of cesarean over normal delivery-
Cesarean is the best option for your baby if the
doctor has advised you to opt for it. Planned
cesarean delivery will let you predict and
arrange you're and your baby's needs in advance.
Some advantages of the C section are mentioned
here in the following points-
1. Less discomfort. 2. No fear of tearing. 3.
Less bleeding. 4. Lesser sexual problems because
of no cut or stitches in the perineum and the
vagina. 5. Lesser chance of pelvic floor damage
which may take place in case of vaginal
delivery. 6. Lesser chance of baby suffering from
birth trauma. 7. The most important advantage of
cesarean delivery is if the mother is suffering
from any infectious disease like HIV or hepatitis
there is a minor risk of passing disease from
mother to baby.
7
Some faults of cesarean-
Although cesarean is a Revolutionary inventory in
the field of medical surgery saving lives of many
mothers and babies in the world bring certain
disadvantages with it that cannot be ignored,
such as pain, bleeding in surgery, blood clot
risk, infection after surgery, and in some cases
mortality of mother are some drawbacks of this
surgery.
8

practice for saving maternal and Infant life. But
only when required for medically indicated
reasons. It is necessary to take care of the
mother after a cesarean to reduce post-cesarean
complications. Although it is an adequate
