• Intermodal transportation involves the transport
  of goods from shipper to consignee using two or
  more transportation modes in an intermodal
  container or carrier, without handling the
  freight itself when changing transportation
  modes.
• Intermodal transport helps to improve security,
  reduce damage and loss, and allows freight to be
  transported faster using truck, rail, ship, or
  aircraft in various combinations to the final
  destination.
