1. Permanent resident status

• You must be a permanent resident to apply for

2. Canadas physical presence requirements

  years (1095 days) in the past five years.
  Children under the age of 18 must also have

  Canada for more than 1095 days.

• If you lived in Canada as a temporary resident or

  spent in Canada as a temporary resident or
  protected person during the past five years can
  be counted as a half day.
• You can use up to 365 days as a temporary
  resident or protected person to satisfy your
  physical presence requirement.

3. File your taxes (if necessary)

• If it applies to you, you may have to file your
  taxes in Canada for at least three years out of
  the five years prior to filing your Canadian
  citizenship application. Even if you have only
  lived in Canada for part of a year, you may need
  to file a tax return if

4. Pass a Canadian citizenship test

• If you were between the ages of 18 and 54 on the
  date you signed your Canadian citizenship

  French. The minimum score is 15 out of 20.

  Level 4 or higher on the Canadian Language

• IRCC can determine how well you communicated with
  citizenship officials during the application
  process.
• If necessary, IRCC can assess your language
  skills during interviews with citizenship
  officials.

6. Ineligibility

• Canadian citizenship will not be granted to
  applicants who
• Do not meet the minimum required residency days
  in Canada
• Cannot speak either English or French
• Do not pass their citizenship test and/or
  interview or
• Cannot provide the required proof of residency
  documentation.
