Quantitative suspension test for the evaluation
of bactericidal activity of disinfectants or
antiseptics


1. The test method involves a sample of product
added to a test suspension of bacteria in a
solution of an interfering substance (Clean
Condition 0.3g/l and Dirty condition 3g/l of
Bovine Serum Albumin).

2. The mixture is maintained at the chosen test
temperature for the adopted contact time.

3. At the end of this contact time, an aliquot is
taken and neutralized immediately.

4. Following a 5-minute neutralization period, 1
ml is plated onto Tryptone Soya Agar to detect
surviving test bacteria.

The EN 1276 standard indicates a suspension test
for laying out whether a substance sanitizer or
germ-free has bactericidal action. Bactericidal
or antimicrobial items are items produced to

pathogenic microorganisms. The EN 1276 standard
applies to items that are utilized in food,
