Title: Functions of Hydrocyclone
1Functions ofHydrocyclone
2INTRODUCTION
- Ores go through multiple screening before mineral
gets extracted. One of the screening components
is Hydrocyclone. A hydrocyclone is a separation
device that separates coarse and fine slurry
particles. We will go through its parts,
functions, and working principles in the
presentation.
3ABOUT HYDROCYCLONE
Hydrocyclone is a high throughput separation
equipment for coarse/fine particle separation
used mostly in the mineral processing industry. A
feed chamber has four main sections the cone
(body), the underflow (spigot liner or apex), and
the overflow (vortex finder). The linings of
hydrocyclone are manufactured either from alumina
or ceramic to prevent wear and tear.
4FEED CHAMBER AND CONE BODY
The cono-conical shape of the hydrocyclone
consists of a tangential feed chamber or inlet
pipe. The slurry is added to the cyclone through
this component. The cone is the body which
consists of the inner vortex and outlet axis.
Inside the vortex centrifugal force acts, in
which the coarse particles are pushed outward,
allowing the fine particles and most of the water
to move upward.
5VORTEX FINDER
The cylindrical structure which is connected with
the feed chamber is the Vortex finder located at
the top of the cyclone. The purpose of this is to
provide a point of separation between fine and
coarse particles.
6SPIGOT LINER (APEX)
The spigot liner is situated at the bottom which
is also known as the underflow liner. The spigot
discharges the feed out of the underflow. The
diameter of the spigot and vortex finder
determines the separation of the slurry.
7CONCLUSION
There are many Hydrocyclone manufacturers in
India that provide customized Hydrocyclone and
are committed to providing the best product along
with service. Some of the recognized
Hydrocyclone manufacturing companies are Tega
Industries, Metso Group, and The Weir Group.
