• The Rubik's cube is a 3-D puzzle that was
  invented in 1974 by Hungarian sculptor and
  professor Erno Rubik. It is one of the world's
  most popular puzzles, with over 350 million cubes
  sold worldwide.

How to solve the Rubiks cube?

• Layer by layer involves solving the cube one
  layer at a time, starting with the bottom layer
  and working your way up. This can be done by
  using a variety of algorithms, or sets of moves,
  to manipulate the pieces into the correct
  position.
• Once the bottom layer is solved, you can move on
  to the second layer.
• The second layer is solved in the same way as the
  first, using algorithms to manipulate the pieces
  into place.
• The third and final layer is solved differently
  than the first two. Instead of using algorithms,
  you use a series of moves known as "intelligent
  guessing." This involves trial and error to find
  the correct sequence of moves that will solve the
  puzzle.

The cube can be solved in a variety of ways, but the most common method is to use what is known as the "layer by layer" method.
