the five on the Hindu calendar.
  • However, have you ever considered why it is
called Shravan? Shravan is the name given to the
Shravan Nakshatra is considered to control the
sky during the Poornima, or full moon day hence,
the name comes from Nakshatra. In this month, the

current year(Sawan 2022), for the first choice
the dates are July 14th through August 12th. In
the second option the dates for Shravan month are
    July 29th through August 27th.
  • This month is mostly associated with the
festivals celebrations and events. It is the
perfect time to organize all significant events
because many of the days in this month are
favourable for shubh Aarambh (the New Beginnings).

Worshiping God Goddess During Sawan Maas
  • Lord Shiva
  • The whole month of Shravan is believed to be
blessed for devotion to Lord Shiva However, the
Mondays during this month are considered to be
doubly significant. They are referred to as
"Shravan Somwar". Simply offering milk and water
and then performing abhishekam to Shivling is
    extremely effective.

  • Goddess Gauri (Parvati)
  • Mangla Gauri worship is carried out every Tuesday
in the Shravan month. This fast is considered to
be extremely auspicious for married women.
Married women live a prosperous life by keeping
this fast on Tuesdays. This fast is popularly
known as Mangla Gauri fast. It is believed that
Goddess Parvati offered austerities in order to
    marry Lord Shiva.
  • In the same way, this fast provides longevity to
    a womans husband.

Spiritual Significance of Shravan Month
  • Shravan is a very special and particular month
for Hindus. There are various important festivals
that take place during the month of Shravan. In
addition, Shravan is the month of Shiva. The
whole month is an occasion for the celebration of
Shiva devotees. The days of Shravan on Mondays
are more important, in the Hindu calendar. All
temples of Shiva are mostly visited by devotees
from across the world during this month.
  • A lot of people observe a fast for the entire
month or can say follow a strict vegetarian diet.
There are those who observe a fast on Mondays to
honor Lord Shiva or on Tuesdays to honor Mata
Parvati. It is believed that women looking for an
ideal husband should fast on Mondays during
Shravan. Mata Parvati did this too before she
    could impress Shiva.

11
Spiritual Significance of Shravan Month
  • According to an ancient tradition that observing
a fast on a Monday, in Shravan, is believed to
bring prosperity to the world. Also, it is
believed to be Lord Shiva's favorite day. When a
person observes the fast they will be blessed
with the joy of the world and their wishes are
fulfilled. Offering fruits and money during this
time at any Jyotirlinga is believed to be
    beneficial.
  • If we think scientifically the fasting can make a
lot of sense. Shravan can be described as the
month in which the monsoon is at its highest. At
this time the digestive system gets fragile and
the number of microbes increase in the
surrounding. Poor eating habits can cause
illnesses, which is why it's recommended to fast
    during this time.
