Title: Voice Actor And Animations - Sam Botta
1Voice Actor And Animations
Sam Botta
2If you are producing an animated project, you
will need at least one voice actor, and you will
need to know what to ask him about his skill
sets. That means you have to look for your voice
actor- or actors as the case might be equipped
with a list of characters complete with a brief,
one-sentence description of every character's
voice needs and requirements, such as Sam Botta.
Don't just hire a voice actor and hope you will
find out he can do what you want. Each one is as
different from every other as every screen actor
is different from his colleagues.
3It doesn't matter if you are casting an original
character, a complex one with apparent
contradictions in his nature, the rascal with a
soft, gooey center, for example, or an archetype
like Gandalf of the popular The Lord of the Ring
Trilogy or Dumbledore of the Harry Potter series,
you have to know what a voices actor requires to
be able to do it in order to bring the character
into life. You have to know what aspects of the
voice are negotiable and which are not.
4A character's accent or age, for instance, is
generally not flexible unless you're eager to
change the very heart of your production. Suppose
you want a French accent but find a voice actor
who does British accents but is genius at pulling
off other hard aspects of the character. In that
case, it's ideally the right to change the
character in order to fit the actor- if you have
discovered a gem of an actor. In the end, you
need to make the call, but you know what you like
at the start, even when you find you are able to
acquire it.
5You might even want special skills from a voice
actor, like having a talent to do a child's
voice. Chances are, you're not going to be able
to look for a child who is a voice actor, after
all. However, there are many things you can do to
create the illusion, for instance, Sam Botta, who
has already done various projects.
