Research shows that hypnotherapy can offer relief
from pain, depression, anxiety, and other serious
health issues, and it can help you quit smoking
too. In one study with 286 smokers enrolled,
participants used either hypnosis for smoking or
behavioral counseling combined with nicotine
patches. They continued with the patches for two
months and had three follow-up phone calls. At 12
months, 20 percent of the hypnosis group was
smoke-free as demonstrated by biochemical
analysis compared to just 14 percent of the
behavioral group. Researchers concluded that
hypnosis was significantly more effective in
participants with a history of depression. When
combined with patches, using hypnosis for smoking
could be especially beneficial in long-term
success.
