3Introduction -What is Online Learning ?
- Online learning is education that takes place
over the Internet. It is often referred to as e-
learning among other terms. However, online
learning is just one type of distance learning
- the umbrella term for any learning that takes
place across distance and not in a traditional
classroom.
4WHAT IS ONLINE LEARNING ?
- Online education is very convenient. In this, the
student can sit anywhere and take education. For
this, no one place is fixed and the student gets
relief even in the weather like summer.
- Many changes have also been seen in the way of
taking education due to technology. Today, the
teaching-related material used in online
education can be sent from one place to another
through technology online.
- Online learning or electronic learning, is the
acquisition of knowledge which takes place
through electronic technologies and media.
5Students do not learn much just sitting in
classes listening to teachers, memorizing
prepackaged assignments, and spitting out
answers. They must talk about what they are
learning, write reflectively about it, relate it
to past experiences, and apply it to their daily
lives. They must make what they learn part of
themselves.

- The future of online learning
- Mobile-friendly content is going to be
essential. Nowadays most students use their
mobile devices not only to look for an online
degree, but also to do course work.
- Online students need career advice. Most online
college students pursue a degree for professional
reasons.
- Online programs are becoming more
diversified. Degrees Business and Education are
probably some of the most popular ones among
online students.
7How does E-learning works ?
8How Online learning works ?
- Get the education you want, from anywhere in the
world, on a schedule that suits your life. - Online learning is when you take courses
online instead of in a physical classroom. If
your schedule makes it hard to attend classes, if
you prefer studying at your own pace or if you
live far from campus, online learning might be
for you. - With online learning, you can
- earn a certificate or diploma without setting
foot in a physical classroom - work full-time while you study
- set your own schedule study in the early
morning, on your lunch break, or even in the
middle of the night - interact with students from across Canada and
around the world - get a quality education from the University of
Victoria without leaving your home community
9Advantages of Online Learning
Efficiency and Affordability
- Improved Student Attendance
- Since online classes can be taken from home or
location of choice, there are fewer chances of
students missing out on lessons.
Online learning offers teachers an efficient way
to deliver lessons to students. Online learning
has a number of tools such as videos, PDFs,
podcasts, and teachers can use all these tools as
part of their lesson plans.
- Suits a variety of learning styles
- Accessibility of Spcae and Time
- Every student has a different learning journey
and a different learning style. Some students are
visual learners, while some students prefer to
learn through audio.
- Another advantage of online education is that it
allows students to attend classes from any
location of their choice. It also allows schools
to reach out to a more extensive network of
students, instead of being restricted by
geographical boundaries.
10Disadvantages of Online Learning
Inability To Focus On Screens
- Another key challenge of online classes is
internet connectivity. While internet penetration
has grown in leaps and bounds over the past few
years, in smaller cities and towns, a consistent
connection with decent speed is a problem.
For many students, one of the biggest challenges
of online learning is the struggle with focusing
on the screen for long periods of time.
- Online learning requires teachers to have a basic
understanding of using digital forms of learning.
However, this is not the case always. Very often,
teachers have a very basic understanding of
technology.
- Students can learn a lot from being in the
company of their peers. However, in an online
class, there are minimal physical interactions
between students and teachers.
