A childs wide imagination usually comes
from their exposure to storybooks, television
shows and even video games. As the IPad
Generation, it is not uncommon to see children
glued to mobile devices in public. Given that
they are still developing cognitively, children
are unable to reason as well as teenagers or
adults. This affects the way they view the world
and perceive everyday events.
4Another hallmark of a good writer is
their ability to weave in figurative language seam
lessly into their stories. Poor scores in the lang
uage component of creative writing rubrics
may highlight that the child may not
be using enough figurative language
or synonyms that replace commonly
used words. Some examples of commonly used
words are Emotions Happy, sad, angry Speech
Tags Said, shouted Movement Walk, run, step,
fly

53. Managing Time Limits
- Some of us crack under pressure. Children are no
- strangers to producing quality work under fixed ti
me - limits. However, as young ones who are still adju
sting to the gruelling routine of tests and exam
inations, running out of time not only lowers t
heir scores, but crushes their self-esteem. - Our students at Write Edge are taught to plan and
write their own stories independently
periodically throughout each term. During
lessons, they are supervised by our teachers to
ensure that they craft grammatically correct and
descriptive stories under set time limits.

Creative writing is a subjective field, where w
riting techniques vary from story to story. The
re are no perfect writers, as all writers are
continuously learning each time they write. Most i
mportantly, empowering our children
through reading and speaking with them will
eventually help them develop into thoughtful and
mature writers.
