• Deborah LaBelle has an extensive educational
  background. She completed her BA in philosophy
  from Barnard College/Oakland University, later
  she went to University of Michigan/Columbia
  University for her Doctoral Studies.

• Deborah LaBelle then finally completed her
  educational journey when she went to Wayne State
  University Law School, J. D.

• Deborah LaBelles work and her countless efforts
  have been recognized by the awards that she has
  been awarded. Some of these notable awards
  include the Martin Luther King I Have a Dream
  Award, the ACLU of Michigan Civil Libertarian of
  the Year Award, the Beloved Community Award,
  which is the most recent one given to her.

• This award was offered to her because of her
  involvement as the lead counsel in two class
  actions on behalf of children incarcerated in
  adult prisons.

• As a result Deborah LaBelle was able to get
  eighty million dollar award for the children, and
  changes in policy and treatment of youth in
  custody, and the release of over a hundred youth
  sentenced to life in prison. This in itself is
  indeed a huge achievement.
