APAC Set-top Box Market revenue to hit 9 Bn by
2027. Asia Pacific set top box market outlook
appears to be ablaze with fresh momentum, thanks
to the augmenting television viewership across
the rural areas in Asia. India and China, among
other countries, are seeing a spiraling number of
DTH subscriptions. As per a July 2021 report
published by India Brand Equity Foundation, the
tele-density of regional rural subscribers across
the nation crossed 60.27 in March 2021,
increasing by nearly 1.48 from last year. To
cite another instance, as per the Q2 2020 Indian
Telecom Services Performance Indicator report by
the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI),
more than 320,000 new DTH subscribers were added
to the active subscriber base, increasing from
70.26 million in March 2020 to over 70.58 million
by June 2020. The total number of SVOD
subscribers in Southeast Asia crossed over 29.6
million by the end of June 2021, with 10 million
new additions over the first six months of the
year. This represents high potential for OTT and
hybrid set top box providers. With the degree
of internet penetration rising across the region,
Asia Pacific set top box industry outlook is
looking toward a fast-track growth through the
next six years. China, South Korea, Japan,
Singapore, and Hong Kong have long started
shifting away from analog televisions. Australia,
India, Malaysia, Philippines, and Fiji are also
introducing initiatives for digital TV adoption.
Since a digital TV requires integration with a
set-top box for streaming channels, the product
demand has been expanding substantially in these
countries.
