Title: Broken Dentures: Now What?
1BROKEN DENTURES
NOW WHAT?
2A well-fitted set of dentures feels like a
natural part of your mouth.
3Once you adjust to wearing them, you should feel
comfortable eating, speaking and smiling.
4They eventually feel like such a normal part of
you that the discovery that they are broken is
upsetting.
5It often seems like dentures break at the worst
possible time.
6You may be looking forward to a special event,
and the last thing you want to do is go without
your teeth.
7In most cases, broken dentures are a rare event.
8Knowing what to do to get them fixed right away
will help you get your teeth back in your mouth
as soon as possible.
9Never Attempt to Glue the Dentures Back Together
10The prospect of not having your dentures may
cause you to feel desperate.
11Unfortunately, some people have tried to do
things such as use household glue to put them
back together.
12These types of glues are not approved for oral
use and can be poisonous.
13Although there are DIY denture repair kits that
are sold over the counter, we recommend avoiding
them.
14In some cases, you may damage your denture even
further by attempting to glue it back together.
15If this happens, you will have no other option
but to replace it completely.
16Schedule an Emergency Appointment
17We view broken dentures as an emergency dental
situation. In many cases, we can get you into the
office the very same day.
18If you must wait a day, then we can also help you
identify the best options for staying
comfortable.
19For instance, you may have a backup pair of
dentures that you could wear while you wait for a
repair.
20If you have special circumstances, such as pain
along your gum line, be sure to mention this when
you set your appointment.
21We will check to see if the broken part of your
dentures has hurt any part of your mouth.
22Determine Your Repair Options
23Minor damage to your dentures may be able to be
repaired during a chairside service.
24This is most likely to be an option if your
dentures have a minor chip in one of the teeth,
or needs a simple relining procedure.
25Dentures that are broken completely in half, or
that have multiple teeth broken, may need to be
replaced by a new set.
26During your visit, we will let you know about the
type of repair that your dentures require.
27We can also provide you with an estimated wait
time if they do need to be sent out for
replacement.
28Find Out If You Are a Candidate for Implants
29Dentures that break are sometimes a sign that
something else is going on with your mouth.
30For example, dentures that become loose often
break due to excessive force being applied in the
wrong areas as you eat.
31Implant supported dentures may be an option that
reduces this type of movement.
32You will also find that having fixed implants
reduces other risk factors for breakage.
33When the dentures stay in your mouth, you will no
longer need to worry about the possibility of
dropping them.
34After we repair or replace your dentures, well

from happening.
