Early Life

• Dua Lipa is the girl of Kosovar Albanians who
  were refugees in London in the 1990s. She sings
  and writes songs. Dua means love in Albanian,
  and she doesnt have a middle name. Lipa wanted
  to be a musician so much that she moved to London
  on her own at the age of 15 to try to make it
  happen. A few years ago, her family moved back to
  Kosovo. Before she signed with a label, she used
  social media to get the word out about herself.
  Lipa said that her early music was dark pop,
  but the songs on her successful second album,
  Future Nostalgia, were faster-paced. Lipa has
  worked with a lot of different artists, like
  Elton John, Miley Cyrus, and Chris Martin.

  born on August 22, 1995. Dukagjin and Anessa, Dua
  Lipas parents, left Pristina, Kosovo, in 1992 to

Family

• Dua Lipa parents were refugees when they first
  came to London. Even though Lipas father went to
  school for dentistry and her mother went to
  school for law, they both had to work in
  restaurants to make ends meet in their new home.
  She was born in 1995.

• Dua Lipa wrote first song when she was about four
  years old. Her father, who was also a dentist,
  played in a rock band before he went to school
  for dentistry. In an interview, she said, My
  father was a musician, and music was always
  playing in the house, so it had a big effect on

  Sting, and Pink when she was young.
• In 2006, Lipas parents decided it was safe
  enough for them to go back to where they came

  language to do well in school. Her Albanian did

  told her about the war in Kosovo that happened

  Anwar Hadid since 2019. Before she started dating

• Before Dua Lipa moved to Kosovo with her family,
  Lipa went to school at the Sylvia Young Theatre
  School in London. She also put covers of songs on
  YouTube to get peoples attention. In an
  interview with 2020, she said, Deep down, I

  someone would find me on YouTube.

Real Goal

• When Lipa was 15, she went back to London and
  moved in with a family friend. She satisfy her
  parents to let her move because it would help her
  schooling. But her real goal was to sing, and she
  thought it wouldnt be possible to start a career
  in music in Kosovo. She told CBS News that in
  2020, I thought, I want to make music, but I
  want to make it for the whole world. I need to
  go back to the place where everything is going
  on.

Job History

• Lipa worked in a restaurant and got paid for it.
  She also joined a modelling agency because she
  thought that it would help her career. But
  because she didnt want to lose weight as the
  agency asked, she didnt get many jobs.

Publish Music

• Lipa still cared about music, so she put songs on
  SoundCloud. She didnt appear on the
  performance-based reality show X-Factor, but she
  did sing in a commercial for the show. Lipa was
  eventually offered a deal to publish her music,
  which started a lucky chain of events. Lipa
  talked to a lawyer about the deal to get advice.
  The lawyer connected her with a manager who was
  also in charge of Lana Del Rey. Lipa chose to
  work with this manager in the end.

  choreography. But she didnt let the comments

  in 2019. She also won a second Grammy that year
  for Electricity, which won Best Dance Recording.

• Future Nostalgia, Lipas second album, was more
  personal than her first album. She thought of the
  title while she was in Las Vegas, and she wrote
  all of the songs on the record. Lipa was getting
  ready to put out Future Nostalgia at the start of
  March 2020. The album then got out on the
  Internet just as the COVID-19 pandemic shut down
  the whole world. Many other artists put their
  work on hold, but Lipa decided to release Future
  Nostalgia a week early.

• Lipa wasnt sure if she should release the album
  because of the world crisis, and the leak had put
  her in a tough spot. Lucky for her, people liked
  what she did. Lipa said that her earlier songs
  were dark pop, but this album was better for

  1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, but they also had modern
  touches.
