What are some facts about MRSA?

  • Methicillin-resistant The first instance of
Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) was found in 1960.
    Staphylococcus aureus (a gram-positive bacterium)
strains that are resistant to the drug
methicillin are referred to as MRSA.

The most prevalent and important cause of
nosocomial infections, as well as a major
contributor to high patient morbidity and
mortality, is MRSA. The MRSA infections that
develop in hospitals are known as health care
setting-associated MRSA infections (HA-MRSA).

  • Here are some MSRA Facts
  • A disease that has been identified as being
difficult to treat and causing a high rate of
    morbidity and fatality.
  • There are many healthy individuals who are
    asymptomatic MRSA carriers.
  • This multidrug-resistant bacterial strain can
endure on surfaces for several days to several
    months in harsh environmental conditions.
  • Direct touch with contaminated skin can quickly
spread the MRSA infection (wounds, cuts, or
abrasions). However, MRSA can also spread through
aerosols, droplets, or direct surface contact.
  • The effects of a severe MRSA infection can be
    lethal.
  • It is also called as "superbug".
