• Etiology mostly viral
• Group A beta hemolytic streptococcus (GABHS)
  may also cause acute sore throat
• Symptoms
• Centor score
• History of fever (1)
• Absence of cough (1)
• Tender anterior cervical LN (1)
• Tonsillar exudates (1)

• Low Centor score (0-2) probability of GABHS is
  low
• Higher centor score (3-4) chances of GABHS is
  high and antibiotic should be prescribed

• Analgesia Paracetamol preferred over Ibuprofen
• Plenty of fluids warm?

• Antibiotics are indicated in case of
• High Centor score
• No symptomatic improvement in 7 days
• High risk group
• Color pale
• Hydration reduced skin turgor
• Activity reduced
• Respiratory RRgt60, grunting
• Others

• First line Amoxicillin / Penicillin
• If allergic to Penicillin Clarithromycin
