  • A career in cosmetology is an exciting
    opportunity for aspiring beauticians, makeup
artists, hairdressers, etc. The major aim of
these professionals is to help people with their
appearance. If you are an aspiring cosmetologist,
you must know the duration of the training
offered by beauty schools providing the best
    cosmetology training in Texas.

Who is a Cosmetologist?
  • A cosmetologist is a professional who helps
clients with their appearance by providing
various services related to cosmetics. This
usually includes cutting, styling and coloring
hair. It can also include a variety of other
services like facial hair treatment, pedicures,
    manicures and makeup application.
  • A cosmetologist works in spas, resorts and
salons. They generally use scissors, clippers,
heat tools, combs, brushes and even chemicals
sometimes. They usually work for a full-time
duration, although it is not rare to work
    part-time with flexible scheduling. Sometimes,
they have to work at night or on weekends to
    accommodate their customers.

How Long Does it Take to Be a Cosmetologist?
  • To begin your journey as a cosmetologist trainee,
the requirements would be a high school diploma,
GED or equivalent. Afterwards, the tenure it
takes to become a cosmetologist will depend on
regional requirements and the enrolled program. A
full program takes longer to complete than a
particular area, such as makeup or barbering.
  • After completing the classroom training,
completion of an internship is required, where
you get supervised practical experience. Only
then can you give the licensing exam and get
ready to work at a professional work salon.
  • Regional variations are available too, but on
average, the duration of time to complete
cosmetology training is four to five years,
excluding high school. If you study part-time,
    the duration would be longer.

5
During the tenure, you will spend-
  • 1. Two years earning an associate degree.
Depending on your aim, you can enroll in an
accelerated program, which takes about nine
    months to complete.
  • 2. Two or more years gaining internship
experience. Most salons require the professional
to gain plenty of practical experience before
hiring. Internships are the best way to get
    experience.
