Have you ever wondered if the air coming in
through the ventilation holes is fresh? If
its fresh, why not exacerbate your allergies on
high pollen days when youre indoors? And if
its not fresh, where does the air come from? If
you want to know how your air conditioner works
and where all that cold air comes from, keep
reading!
3
If youve always been curious enough to check
your air conditioner, youve probably noticed
that it usually has two components. Internal
components and external components. These
components are connected by copper wires. The
copper pipe is filled with a refrigerant in the
form of a gas or liquid. It might be hard to
believe, but its the only thing going on
between the two units. Air inside? Yes, its only
indoor air and doesnt mix with outside air at
all. The same goes for the outside air. It
doesnt mix with the air in the room at all.
4
Your outdoor unit simply draws in air with a fan,
retrieving any existing heat from the refrigerant
and letting it cool before recycling. This air
just flows through the outdoor unit. It didnt
stick to it. The heat dissipates and you can go
down a cheerful little street. However, inside
your device there is air being sucked in,
sometimes on the ceiling or walls. The air
intake inlet has some sort of filter that keeps
out dust and dirt, but still lets air in. When
air blows through it, it flows through the super
cooled coil inside to cool down the home. This
process transfers heat from the air to the
super-cooled coil of your air conditioner .
5
While it may not seem overwhelming, the fact that
your home separates the outside and inside air
is very useful for many reasons. Think about it
if your house carries outside air all the time,
youll find yourself covered in pollen, dust,
mold, and mildew, and who knows what might
happen to your walls! It can also be useful as it
helps you narrow down your problem.
