Title: Things Most People Don’t Know About AC
1Things Most People Dont Know About AC
2Air conditioning systems have fulfilled their job
of providing us with relaxing moments in the
scorching summer heat for years. The primitive
stage of air cooling goes back hundreds of
years in ancient Egypt, when reeds were hung on
windows with dripping water. Like other human
inventions, air conditioning has gone through
many stages of development to become the form we
see and use today. The air conditioner is in a
secluded corner of the room and has some very
interesting things that people might not know
about.
3Huge ice sheets are used to cool Buildings
This may sound very strange and unrealistic, but
people do this to fight off hot days. Before
Carrier invented air conditioning, people used
to cool buildings with giant layers of ice that
were collected from rivers and lakes in
winter. If you believe 19th century production
data for ice cream magazines and refrigerators,
the Hudson River harvest in 1890 was about 4
million tons! Not only that, its also said that
the harvest wont be enough if the summer is
hotter than expected and they need even more
harvest4s!
4Willis Career
Father of AC The first major electric air
conditioner was used by engineers Willis
Career. When the publisher ran into quality
problems on July 17, 1902, Carrier presented his
original drawings of what became known as the
worlds first air conditioning system. Thanks to
Carriers efforts, the world saw the first spray
air conditioner. Do you know what his invention
was called when he received a patented design?
Apparatus for Treating Air.
5The term air conditioning was coined by Stuart
Kramer
Although Willis Carrier is credited with
inventing the air conditioning system, the term
air conditioning system was coined by another
engineer and inventor, Stuart Kramer, who has
more than 60 patents to his credit. In 1906
Kramer used the term AC to describe his system
for regulating humidity and temperature in the
textile industry. He found that the ability to
control humidity in a textile mill could increase
productivity. In other words, the quality and
condition of the product can be improved.
6The development of air conditioning reduces the
spread of several diseases
Apart from increasing comfort, air conditioning
also helps prevent several diseases that spread
quickly in warm climates and humid conditions.
7The cooling capacity of an air conditioning
system is measured in tons
This baffles many people to this day. The
cooling capacity of air conditioners can vary
from less than 1 ton to 5 tons for residential
buildings. Now many people are confused and
think that this is the weight of the air
conditioner and the air conditioner is so big
and heavy it wont fit in their house. Check
