Polariscope is an optical device used to study
the optical characteristics of substances
including crystals, polymers, and glass. It
functions according to the principle of
birefringence, which is a material's capacity to
divide a light wave into two waves with distinct
polarisation and refractive indices. On either
side of a sample are two polarising filters that
make up the Polariscope. After passing through
the sample, the light is polarised by the first
polarizer, and the second polarizer is
positioned at a right angle to the first.
