I watch the current ads for Medicare suppliant
continuation and am perplexed as to what is all
the hullabaloo about the politicians cancelling
Medicare supplement insurance policies because
Medicare supplement insurance is not even
Medicare. It just somehow gave everyone the
belief that it was. Medicare supplement, also
known as Medigap, is not actually Medicare
itself, but rather a private insurance policy
designed to work alongside Medicare. Medicare is
a federal health insurance program that provides
coverage for eligible individuals who are aged 65
and older, as well as certain younger
individuals with disabilities.
Medicare supplement policies are sold by private
insurance companies and are designed to help
cover some of the out-of-pocket costs that
Medicare does not cover, such as deductibles,
copayments, and coinsurance. These policies are
standardized and regulated by the federal
government, so the benefits offered by each
policy are the same regardless of which insurance
company sells the policy. Once again, Medicare
supplement policies are not actually Medicare,
they are designed to complement and enhance the
coverage provided by Medicare by helping to fill
in some of the gaps in coverage.
