For any person who is living in a working

keep the back strain free and to avoid it from

3Maintenance of the home and household involves
various movements of the body which affects the
spine and the back, for example consideration of
how many times a day a person simply bent down
picking something off from the floor or reaching
for some of the object while cleaning or
showering, along with this there are certain
activities that involves carrying heavy weight on
the back as well like carrying a laundry basket
grocery bags or garbage dustbin these can cause
immense train to the back and the spine. All
these movements not only involves bending of
spine but also involves carrying extra additional
weight which can lead to back pain and stiffness
to the worst level.
4Tips to avoid back pain while doing household
chores-
1) Washing dishes- Washing dishes is the most
common activity that is done in each and every
house. It is seen that most of the houses have
deep sink due to which excessive pressure is
created on the spine while washing the utensils
or while reaching to any utensil.
To fix or to relieve the strain on the spine
while washing the dishes or utensils in such sink
place a stool near the sink and step over it to
reduce the distance between the sink and the
hands this will allow reaching the utensils
easily and creating less pressure on the back and
the spine as well. These techniques can also be
used while ironing or while washing clothes.
2) Using a Vacuum cleaner or broom- Floor
cleaning is the most common practice that is done
in the household that leads to pressure and
strain to the spine and the back, the most common
mistake while floor cleaning people do is to bend
forward along with the vacuum cleaner or groom,
excessive bending can lead to back pain stiffness
and spine problems. These actions can cause
immense stress and pressure to the spine and can
be a common cause of the back pain.
5- Ice it is the most effective technique to reduce
swelling and inflammation, it is basically done
by applying up a cloth that is covered by ice
pack up 15 to 20 minutes. - Compression Wrap the calf in a stretchy, tight
bandage or wear a compression stocking to reduce
swelling. - Elevation elevation is the technique to promote
circulation of blood and to reduce swelling.
Elevation is an effective technique for reducing
pain as well. - Prevention
- Some of the most common tips and ways that can
help to prevent progression of the condition and
avoid calf pain are- - 1) Mobility work try to keep the ankle and
muscles mobile and keep moving them through
stretching during exercise, also it's very
important to move the joint through the full
range of motion with the correct form this will
help to prevent the calf pain. - 2) Rest resting is one of the most important
thing after any physical workout or activity,
taking proper rest between or after the workout
and any physical activity can help to facilitate
the muscle repair and its growth and is the best
way to prevent injuries or calf pain. -
6Always keep in mind to stick at a straight erect
posture while using the broom or vacuum cleaner
as these can avoid chances of back pressure which
can prevent conditions like back pain and stress
over the back. Always try to keep your hips and
posture aligned.
3) Picking up to heavy objects- Household chorus
also involves certain activities which involves
picking up heavy objects that can lead to serious
conditions of the back along with the jerk in
back.
Try to avoid picking up heavy objects at a time
as this can be really harmful for the back
muscles which can cause spasm and stiffness of
the muscles that ultimately leads to accessive
back pain. Try to divide a work in such a manner
that you may not pick heavy objects. Example
while carrying a laundry basket try to put less
weight on the basket and keep the back straight
while pulling the basket.
4) Toileting- Now a days Western toilets are the
part of each and every house, but there are
places which do not have western toilet, people
using Indian toilets are at more risk of
developing back pain and back conditions due to
unusual posture changes and back pressure while
picking up from the toileting position. While
picking up from the toilet try not to forcefully
pick up as this can lead to jerk in the back
which can ultimately lead to back pain and strain
over the back.
