Tips to Consider When Hire Best Boat Bottom Painter

Description:

Barnacles, zebra mussels, algae and other marine growth can greatly diminish your boat’s performance by increasing hull drag, decreasing fuel efficiency and clogging intakes and other components. Professional boat-bottom painting services have stands that support boats while reaching into hard-to-reach spots, providing excellent results. Be sure to follow product instructions carefully and allow ample dry time between coats; particularly important if using petroleum-based paint. Furthermore, when working with chemical-based paints it is imperative that a respirator be worn to avoid inhaling hazardous fumes; two or three coats should do it. Barnacles, zebra mussels, algae and other marine
growth can greatly diminish your boats
performance by increasing hull drag, decreasing
fuel efficiency and clogging intakes and other
components.
Antifouling paints prevent growth by using
biocides chemicals which prevent marine life
from attaching to your hull which act like
biocide treatments that block this ability and,
once dry, prevent new layers from forming over
time.
3
It is wise to consult fellow boaters, local
boatyard professionals or our ongoing bottom
paint research (see above link) when making this
decision in order to find out which antifouling
paint would best meet your specific
circumstances.
No matter which antifouling paint you select,
some form of preparation will likely be required
before it can be applied to your boat. Some hard
paints require stripping other can be rubbed
down with a broom and pressure washed.
4
As with any type of work that requires removal of
an antifouling topcoat, professional assistance
should always be sought before undertaking this
type of task yourself.
Once the hull has been prepared, it should be
sanded to a smooth finish using fine-grit
sandpaper before wiping with a clean lint-free
cloth or rag soaked with acetone or mineral
spirits and dried thoroughly.
5
Professional boat-bottom painting services have
stands that support boats while reaching into
hard-to-reach spots, providing excellent
results. Or you could attempt it yourself,
though a DIY project could produce less than
desirable results.
Furthermore, when working with chemical-based
paints it is imperative that a respirator be
worn to avoid inhaling hazardous fumes two or
three coats should do it.
