Major Requirements in Order to Obtain license or
certificate 1) Education Licensed Residential
-- 150 qualifying course hours as specified by
Appraisers Qualification Board 2008 Core
Curriculum. Qualifying education courses taken
through distance education may not exceed 75 of
the required 150 hours. The 15-hour qualifying
USPAP course taken through distance education or
taken more than two years preceding the date of
the application is not accepted.. Certified
Residential -- 200 qualifying course hours as
specified by Appraisers Qualification Board 2008
Core Curriculum. Qualifying education courses
taken through distance education may not exceed
75 of the required 200 hours. The 15-hour
qualifying USPAP course taken through distance
education or taken more than two years preceding
the date of the application is not accepted. Also
required, associate degree, or higher, OR college
transcript of successfully passing a total of at
least 21 semester credit hours of collegiate
subject matter courses in (1) English

course taken through distance education or taken

application is not accepted. All courses must be
approved to meet the 2008 Core Curriculum. Also
required is a bachelors degree, or higher, OR
college transcript of successfully passing a
total of at least 30 semester credit hours of
collegiate subject matter courses in (1) English
composition (2) micro economics (4) macro
economics (4) finance (5) algebra, geometry or
higher mathematics (6) statistics (7)
introduction to computers-word processing/spreadsh
eets (8) business or real estate law and (9)
two elective courses in accounting, geography,
ag-economics, business management, or real
estate. 2) Minimum Experience Licensed
Residential -- 2,000 hours in not less than 18
months Certified Residential -- 2500 hours in
not less than 24 months. Not less than two
completed reports must be multi-family.
Experience must have been acquired within 10
years immediately preceding the filing of the
application for certification Certified General
-- 3000 hours in not less than 30 months. At
least 1500 hours must reflect nonresidential
appraisals. Experience must have been acquired
within 10 years immediately preceding the filing
of the application for certification. Applicants
must have signed copy of the Supervising
Appraiser's Notification of Engagement/Termination
of Trainee by each of applicant's supervising
appraisers. 3) Passage of National Uniform Real
Property Appraiser Examination for Certified
Residential Appraisers approved by the Appraiser
Qualifications Board. The education and
experience must be completed and the application
must be approved by the Board before the
examination may be taken. . For those who have
already taken exam in another state, reciprocity
is available with 1) copy of applicant's current
license or certificate from the state in which
applicant is a resident, (2) original, current
(within the last 30 days) letter of good standing
from each state applicant holds a real estate
license or certificate and 3) original, current
(within the last 30 days) history letter from
each state that an applicant formerly held a real
estate appraiser license or certificate. Check
with Appraisal Board for reciprocity states.
License/Certificate Fees 400 for initial
license application, 425 for renewal 29 for
fingerprint exam upon passage of national
exam, 50 to be listed in National Registry.
