Description GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION Reviews and
approves plans and makes on-site inspections only
on those buildings which are the responsibility
of local governments under the Kentucky Revised
Statutes and with agreement of the Department
approve plans and make on-site inspections of all
buildings, regardless of size and within the
inspector's jurisdiction to determine if those
buildings are constructed in accordance with the
plans and the Kentucky Building Code. EDUCATIONAL
REQUIREMENTS An applicant must show proof that
he/she possesses at least one (1) of the
following credentials (a) high school graduate
or GED plus three (3) years experience in a
responsible directly related construction
position, such as a foreman, requiring the
ability to effectively read and interpret
building plans and specifications or three (3)
years experience in an architect's or engineer's
office performing building design or drafting
duties or (b) college or university graduate
with an associate degree in construction related
subject or (c) college or university graduate
with a bachelor degree in architecture,
engineering, fire science or building technology
or (d) successful passage of at least one (1)
examination module listed - 1A, 4A, 1B, 3B, 4B,
1C, 3C 4C or (e) compliance with applicable
local personnel rules of the jurisdiction for
which a person is employed which are equal to or
more stringent

REQUIREMENTS Examinations are computer generated
and given approximately every two (2) months
during a one (1) week testing window. Must score
75 to pass. Registration fee of 60.00 PLUS test
fee of 45.00 each test. GENERAL INFORMATION for
LICENSURE or CERTIFICATION To be certified
applicants must pass test modules 1B, 4A, 1B, 3B,
4B, 1C, 3C and attend a three (3) day orientation
session. Any person employed by a local
government must be registered in the
Certification Program. Only certified inspectors
may legally function as a local Build Licensing
