Title: Common Treatments And Interventions For Preterm Babies

1
Common Treatments and Interventions for Preterm
Babies
2
NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT (NICU) CARE
Most preterm infants are admitted to the NICU,
where they receive 24/7 medical supervision. In
the NICU, healthcare professionals monitor vital
signs, provide respiratory support if necessary,
and ensure the baby's nutritional needs are met.
3
RESPIRATORY SUPPORT
  • Preterm infants often have underdeveloped lungs,
making it difficult for them to breathe on their
    own. Respiratory support options include
  • Mechanical Ventilation A ventilator helps the
baby breathe by delivering oxygen and air through
    a breathing tube.
  • Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) CPAP
delivers a continuous stream of air through nasal
prongs or a mask to help keep the baby's airways
    open.
  • Surfactant Therapy Surfactant is a substance
that can be administered directly to the baby's
    lungs to improve lung function.

4
NUTRITIONAL SUPPORT
  • Premature babies have special nutritional needs
to support growth and development. They may
    receive nutrition through
  • Intravenous (IV) Feeding Nutrients are delivered
directly into the bloodstream through an IV line.
  • Tube Feeding If the baby cannot suck or swallow,
a feeding tube may be used to deliver breast milk
or formula directly to the stomach.

5
TEMPERATURE REGULATION
Preterm infants have difficulty regulating their
body temperature. They are often placed in an
incubator or radiant warmer to maintain a stable
body temperature. Skin-to-skin contact (kangaroo
care) with parents can also help with temperature
regulation and bonding.
6
MONITORING AND TREATMENT OF COMPLICATIONS
  • After completing the task, lower the load to the
    ground or its designated location.
  • Retract the boom fully and secure it in its
    transport position.
  • Lower and retract the outriggers (if used) to
    prepare for crane transport.
  • Turn off the engine and secure the crane's
    controls to prevent unauthorized use.
  • Conduct a post-operation inspection to check for
any damage or issues that may have arisen during
    use
