License DescriptionA license is necessary for
drilling drinking water wells. Drinking water
wells can be for industrial, municipal, or
private residential use. A license is currently
not required to construct monitoring wells or
non-potable wells. Prerequisites Must submit a
record of complying potable drilling experience,
complete an exam, and be approved by Department
of Natural Resources (DNR) staff. Exams are
offered at a different DNR station the first
Wednesday of even numbered months. Required
Documentation Record of drilling experience
including well owner name, Wisconsin Unique Well
Number (WUWN), property location, county,
completion date, activity hours supervisor was
