The Importance of Stem Cells | Plexus

Description:

Stem cells are unspecialized cells of the human body. Procured from one part of the body, they can differentiate and become/grow into other kinds of cells, including specialized cells. Our body has the unique ability to self-heal. Illness, injury, or disease can disrupt this ability. Stem cells have the power to remind our body of its self-healing capabilities, and supports this process by growing/dividing into healthy cells that can replace the cells damaged by disease. – PowerPoint PPT presentation

Lets understand stem cells
  • Stem cells are unspecialized cells of the human
    body.
  • Procured from one part of the body, they can
differentiate and become/grow into other kinds of
    cells, including specialized cells.
  • Our body has the unique ability to self-heal.
Illness, injury, or disease can disrupt this
ability. Stem cells have the power to remind our
body of its self-healing capabilities, and
supports this process by growing/dividing into
healthy cells that can replace the cells damaged
    by disease.

3
What are the two types of stem cell therapy?
  • Autologous therapy - Cells are procured from
patients own bone marrow, blood, or fat tissue
  • Allogeneic therapy - Cells are procured from
    external donors

4
Stem cells can be used to treat
  • Inflammatory conditions ? Orthopedic conditions ?
    Trauma-induced conditions
  • Autoimmune diseases ? Neurological disorders ?
    Metabolic disorders
  • Hematopoietic diseases ? Cardiovascular illnesses
    ? Gastrointestinal disorders
  • Kidney disorders ? Lung disease ? Liver disorders
  • Cancers ? Skin disorders ? Ocular disorders

5
Administering stem cells
  • Stem cells can be administered in the following
    ways
  • Intravenous
  • Intrathecal (directly into the spinal canal)
  • Inject into problem areas like hips, hands,
    knees, etc.

6
Types of Stem Cells and Stem Cell Therapies
7
Embryonic stem cell therapy
  • Embryonic stem cells (ESCs) are derived from the
inner cell mass of an embryo in its early stages
    of development.
  • These unspecialized cells do not have any
specific characteristics like shape or gene
expression pattern. These cells can be
differentiated into any cell type in the body.
  • This makes them the ideal choice for stem cell
    therapy.
  • However, the origins of ESCs are still a matter
    of ethical debate.
  • They are mostly used for research purposes only.

8
Adult stem cell therapy
  • Adult stem cells (ASCs) are undifferentiated
cells procured from fully developed tissues like
    the brain and bone marrow.
  • They are multipotent cells (limited ability to
differentiate into other types of cells) and are
    typically used for tissue repair.

9
Induced pluripotent stem cell therapy
  • Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) are
genetically reprogrammed stem cells that exhibit
    ESCs characteristics.
  • These cells can self-renew and also differentiate
into any cell type in the body.
  • The risk of immune rejection with iPSCs is lower
because they are procured from the patients body
    itself.

10
Mesenchymal stem cell therapy
  • Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are ASCs with
    anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory,
    self-renewal, cell-division, signaling, and
    differentiation properties.
  • They can replace cells that are diseased or
    damaged.
  • At Plexus, we use autologous mesenchymal stem
cells for a variety of conditions such as
  • Stroke
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Parkinsons Disease
  • Spinal Cord Injury
  • Spinocerebellar Ataxia
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Autoimmune Conditions like Psoriasis
  • Neurodevelopmental Disorders
  • Muscular Dystrophies
  • Motor Neuron Diseases
  • Brachial Plexus Injury

11
Benefits of stem cell therapy at Plexus
  • Enhanced everyday functioning
  • Improved quality of life
  • Immune system modulation and reduction of
    inflammation
  • Prevention of further nerve damage
  • Speedy recovery postprocedure
  • Non-surgical procedure
  • Zero complications and side-effects

Stem cell therapy at Indias first ISO-Certified
Stem Cell Research Center
  • Plexus Neuro and Stem Cell Research Centre uses
    autologous mesenchymal stem cells.
  • The procedure is conducted by Dr. Sadiq, Indias
no. 1 stem cell specialist, and his team of
highly skilled and experienced stem cell
    specialists.

  • From embryonic and mesenchymal stem cells to
hematopoietic stem cells and cord blood cells -
there are numerous potential applications of stem
cells that are still being researched.
  • The cure to the most devastating and
life-threatening illnesses may be with these stem
    cells.
