  • FY 2024 ICD-10-CM code set has
  • 395 new diagnosis codes,
  • 25 deletions, and
  • 13 revisions for the fiscal year
  • New codes are being added throughout the
    chapters with increased specificity
  • There are no changes in every section, Such As

Conclusions
  • A Lot of new codes BUT less than what weve had
    annually since ICD 10.
  • Have to use the 2024 Code Set NOW for payment
    periods beginning Sept 2, as you bill Oct 1 may
    have to dual code until Oct 1 when they go into
    effect.
  • The Guidelines have changes as wellso be sure to
    pay attention to those as well!
  • Also be sure to follow all of the instructions,
    such as excludes 1 and 2 notes, Code First, Code
    Also, etc. etc.
  • Most of all, code to the providers documentation!
  • Query the provider when you do not have
    sufficient information starting with
    Intake/Admission.
  • By the time a coder gets the record, all
    diagnoses should be consistent and accurate!
