The Ultimate Guide To Understanding Coffee Roast
Levels
Wide-awake coffee roast levels play a pivotal
role in determining the flavor, aroma, and
overall profile of the coffee beans you
brew. Here are different levels of coffee
roasting- Light Roast- Light roast coffee beans
are roasted for the shortest duration, typically
until they reach the "first crack." Medium
Roast- Medium roast beans are roasted to the end
of the first crack or just before the second
crack begins. Medium-Dark Roast- As you move
toward the medium-dark roast level, the beans
become darker brown with some visible oil on the
surface. Dark Roast- Dark roast beans are
roasted past the second crack, leading to a deep
brown to almost black color. French Roast French
roast is the darkest of all roast levels, with
beans appearing almost black and heavily coated
in oil.
