2What is internet of things?
- The terms Internet of Things issued firstly
1999 by MIT - Auto-ID Center.
- Initial definition Constructing an
Internet-based network - covering all the things in the world by using
related - technologies to realize things automatic
identification and - information sharing.
- ITU Internet Report 2005 indicate that RFID,
sensor, nano technology intelligent embedded
tech. are 4 cores tech.to realize IoT. - Recently, IoT has been redefined depending on
different perspectives application scenarios.
3What is internet of things?
- 2009, The Cluster of European Research Projects
on IoT Strategic Research Roadmap An
integrated part of future Internet and could be
defines as a dynamic global network
infrastructure with self-configuring
capabilities based on standard interoperable
communication protocol - Some researchers IoT is for addressing physical
objects and some think that IoT is ubiquitous
with the future of everything connected,
intelligently controlled and anywhere covered. - Cuno Pfister (2011) Its countless embedded
computer, sensors, - and actuators all connected online.
- The foundation features of IoT is mapping
interconnecting - things between the physical world and cyber
world.
4The Concept of IoT
(refer to Harald Sundmaeker et.al. 2010)
5The Concept of IoT
(refer to Zainab Kamal et.al. 2017)
Anyone
Anything
Internet of Things (IoT)
Any places Any services Any networks
Anytime
6The Concept of IoT
(Rustam, 2018)
Internet of Things (IoT)
Any service Any business
Any thing Any device
Anyone
internet
Any places, Any time, Any context, Any networks
7Architecture of the IoT
- According to the recommendations of the
- International Telecommunication Union (ITU)
- The Sensing Layer
- The Access Layer
- The Network Layer
- The Middleware Layer
- The Application Layer
- These are like the OSI model
8Architecture of the IoT
According to Shivangi Vashi et.al.2017
9Layer of the IoT
- Perception Layer
- Similar to physical layer of OSI
- Consist of different types of sensor, devices
environmental elements - Copes overall device management
- Gathered information location, pH level,
humidity, temperature, amount of dust in the
air, wind speed, vibration, etc. - The information transmits through the network
layer
10Layer of the IoT
- Network Layer
- The role is in securely transferring keeping
the sensitive information confidential from
sensors to the central information processing
system through 3G, 4G, WiFi, LAN/WAN, satellite,
etc. - Responsible for transferring the information
from Perception layer to upper layer.
11Layer of the IoT
- Middleware Layer
- It has two essential function service
management and store the lower layer information
into the database - Capabilities to retrieve, process, compute
information, and then automatically decide based
on the computational results
12Layer of the IoT
- Application Layer
- Responsible for inclusive applications
management based on the processed information in
the Middleware layer. - The IoT applications smart postal, smart
health, smart city, smart car, smart home, smart
tranportation etc.
13Layer of the IoT
- Business Layer
- Its functions cover the overall of IoT
applications services management - Based on the amount of accurate data received
from lower layer and effective data analysis
process, it can create practical graph, business
model, cash flow, executive report etc. - Based on the good analysis results, it will help
managers/executives to make more accurate
decisions on business strategies roadmaps
14- Intelligence smart
- Connectivity between things are connected
- Sensing using some sensors and actuator
- Safety security aspect
- Energy efficient (electricity energy saving),
efficient time consuming
15Internet of Things Applications
16IoT Growth
17Smart City
18Smart Health
19Smart Home/Building
20Smart Grid
