• It is nearly three and half years now. I remember
  the day when my wife was admitted for our second
  child birth. We had our son in Poland and bit of
  anxiety was mixed to our feelings though the
  support was excellent at the Princess of Wales
  hospital, Bridgend. The midwife looked after Anna
  was kind and helpful. She progressed up to 9
  centimetres of womb dilatation. However all of a
  sudden the things changed and the midwife was
  struggling to find the heartbeat of my unborn
  daughter. She was strapped to a machine and the
  heart beat remained low apparently. We couldn't
  grasp what was happening and the fact the midwife
  looked worried made us feel terrible.

• The doctor was called immediately and for the
  first time I saw him that day. He was very prompt
  and changed my wife's position and examined her
  and decided to proceed with a caesarean operation
  to save the life of my child. He appeared very
  serious and didn't want to waste a single second
  and he pushed my wife's bed to the operation room
  as the aesthetic doctor was already getting ready
  to anesthetise her. There was a brief
  conversation between the two and I heard Dr K was
  telling I need this baby to be out as soon
  possible. They agreed for a general aesthetic and
  I was taken out of the room by another midwife. I
  looked at my wife and hugged her before leaving
  not knowing what lies ahead of us. I felt my
  whole world is collapsing and all the dreams I
  had about my daughter was getting shattered.

• After few minutes the midwife came and said my
  baby daughter was born alive and she was
  supported for few minutes to initiate her
  breathing. She was given oxygen and taken to
  special baby unit for further care. I didn't see
  my baby but somewhat relieved that she came
  alive. After about half an hour the doctor came
  out and spoken to me.

• He said the cord connecting the baby to mum was
  slipping through her birth canal and that was the
  reason for dropping of the heartbeat .Since she
  was not dilated fully he had no choice other than
  delivering by a cassena section. He went and said
  further that he didn't have time to explain and
  could not even get the necessary forms signed by
  my wife for the operation. He appeared very calm
  and relaxed and I felt overwhelmingly grateful
  for him.
