  • Who is Eligible?
  • Ontario residents under 43 years old with a valid
    OHIP card qualify for most treatments.
  • Fertility preservation requires a valid OHIP
    card, being under 43, and a valid medical reason
    (e.g., chemotherapy).
  • Sex, gender, sexual orientation or family status
    are not considerations in fertility treatment
    eligibility.

  • IVF
  • In vitro fertilization involves retrieving eggs
    from one partners ovaries (or using a donor egg)
    and then fertilizing the eggs using the other
    partners sperm (or donor sperm) in a lab. Once
    fertilized, the embryo is transferred to the
    uterus.
  • Eligibility
  • Ontario residents under 43 years old
  • Valid OHIP card required

  • One full IVF cycle
  • Up to two cycle monitoring attempts
  • Two Embryo freezing/thawing/culture
  • One attempt at surgical sperm retrieval
  • Single fresh/frozen embryo transfer
  • Fertilization and embryology services (ICSI,
    assisted hatching, blastocyst culture)
  • Treatments not covered
  • Purchase of donor sperm/eggs
  • Storage/shipment of eggs/sperm/embryos
  • Services for other participants in the IVF cycle

  • IUI
  • IUI is a minimally invasive fertility treatment
    that involves placing the most viable sperm
    specimens in direct or close contact with the egg
    inside the womans uterus to substantially
    increase the chances of conception. 
  • Eligibility
  • Ontario residents with a valid OHIP card

  • Under 43 years old
  • Valid medical reason (chemotherapy,
    gender-reaffirming surgery)

  • 1. Get a referral from your physician.
  • 2. Contact a participating fertility clinic.
  • 3. Discuss your treatment options and
    eligibility.
  • 4. Submit your application through the clinic.
  • Wait times Government-funded clinics manage wait
    lists based on clinical judgment and report wait
    times to the Ministry of Health.
