1
ARTHROSCOPIC SURGERY
A minimally invasive approach to joint repair
2
WHAT IS ARTHROSCOPY?
  • Arthroscopy is a surgical procedure that uses a
    small camera (arthroscope) to visualize,
diagnose, and treat problems inside a joint.
  • The arthroscope is inserted through small
incisions in the skin, allowing the surgeon to
see and operate on the joint without making large
    open wounds.

3
BENEFITS OF ARTHROSCOPY
  • Minimally invasive Smaller incisions mean less
    pain, scarring, and tissue damage.
  • Faster recovery time Patients can often go home
the same day or the day after surgery and return
    to their normal activities sooner.
  • Lower costs Shorter hospital stays and less
rehabilitation can lead to lower overall costs.

4
CONDITIONS TREATED WITH ARTHROSCOPY
  • Meniscus tears
  • ACL tears
  • Rotator cuff tears
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Shoulder impingement
  • Knee chondromalacia

5
THE ARTHROSCOPIC PROCEDURE
  • The surgeon makes small incisions in the skin
    around the joint.
  • The arthroscope and surgical instruments are
    inserted through the incisions.
  • The surgeon views the inside of the joint on a
    video monitor.
  • The surgeon performs the necessary repairs using
    the surgical instruments.
  • The incisions are closed with stitches or sutures.

6
RECOVERY FROM ARTHROSCOPY
  • Most patients experience some pain and swelling
after surgery, which can be managed with
    medication.
  • Physical therapy may be necessary to help regain
strength and range of motion in the joint.
  • Most patients are able to return to their normal
activities within a few weeks or months.

7
RISKS OF ARTHROSCOPY
  • As with any surgery, there are some risks
associated with arthroscopy, such as infection,
bleeding, and damage to nerves or blood vessels.
  • However, these risks are relatively rare.

8
CONCLUSION
  • Arthroscopy is a safe and effective treatment for
    a variety of joint problems.
  • If you are considering joint surgery, be sure to
ask your doctor if arthroscopy is an option for
    you.

I HOPE THIS HELPS!
Please note that this is just a general outline,
and you may need to modify it to fit your
specific needs. You can also add additional
slides to your PPT if you want to cover more
information about arthroscopy.
