Title: Redefining Identity: Reshaping Cultural Stereotypes in a Globalized World

1
Long term changes in stereotypical thinking
affect girls and boys less over time. Stereotype
can be defined as those opinions or ideas that
almost all people have about the particular
object or person, for example, there is a widely
held stereotype that," color blue is for boys and
color pink is for girls". Theses stereotypes are
such that if anyone or any person behaves against
the stereotype, then that person will be seen as
odd one out. Basically, these stereotypes are not
compulsory rules and regulations or norms, but
it is something that is generalized all over the
world, almost all people have the same
notion. Sometimes, these illogical stereotypes
may have a worse effect on one's mental
well-being, as if an individual behaves against
these stereotypes, then the society may question
about their identity. In the earlier times,
number of stereotypes has been widely held, and
people actually follow such stereotypes as they
think that if they go against that particular
stereotype, then the society may judges him/her,
gossip about them, saying ill-will things about
them, and may also question their
self-identity. For example, earlier, there is
stereotype that women should do all the
household chores and men should be the
breadwinner of the house, but with changing
time, this stereotype has been changed as now
women break such kind of invalid stereotype, she
also start working outside, and can also become
the breadwinner of the house. Also, the men now
indulge in doing household chores, as people now
believe that both men and women are equal, no
one is superior or inferior, and all work is of
having the same value, and can be done by any of
them. Earlier, people believe that men are not
expected to be cry, "they are strong, they
cannot cry as girls", but now a days this
stereotypes has also been changed as people now
have a change in their thinking pattern, they
believe that both are equal, and both can
express their emotions and stress, and
problems. Also, earlier, while discussing about
the cricket game, they generally saying batsman,
as it is the game of boys, but now a days it has
been changed, even
2
the girls can also play cricket, and the word
batsman changed into the word "batsperson" Now
a days, people believe that both men and women
are equal, they break the illogical stereotypes,
and adopt a thinking that is based on logic and
reasons. Above examples clearly shows the change
in the thinking pattern of people. These changes
definitely has a positive impact on boys and
girls, now they got the equal career-related
opportunities. People believe that the earlier
generation are somewhat superstitious, number of
myths illogical practices had been followed, but
now all these myths has been redundant, people
are becoming broad minded, open- minded, adopt
or believe on the scientific reason behind any
statement. Since these stereotypes have a bad
effect on one's mental well-being, sometimes,
due to these stereotypes, the person may not be
able to fulfill their goals and desires, but
with the change of time, these stereotypes has
been vanished and people may get more freedom in
their life. They are not bound by anyone, and
can do whatever they want or like.
CONCLUSION So, change in the thinking pattern
definitely has a good effect on one's mental and
physical well-being. Although, in today's time as
well, some of the stereotypes has still been
followed, but again the time changes, these
invalid, illogical stereotypes definitely be
vanished or redundant. For more such
