Corsica is an island in the Mediterranean Sea
to the north of Sardinia. It is the fourth
largest island in the Mediterranean Sea with an
area of 8700 km2. Its population is 350,000. It
is a region of France to which Corsica was joined
in 1768. The capital is Ajaccio, which is the
birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte. The second
largest city is Bastia. The permanent presence of
man on the island is documented since
approximately the 6th millennium BC. It is the
most mountainous island in the Mediterranean. The
highest peak is Monte Cinto with a height of
2,706 m. The island is 183 km long and 83 km at
its widest point. More than a third of the island
is made up of nature reserves. Parc Naturel
Régional de Corse, created in 1972, protects rare
animal and plant species. The Scandola Nature
Reserve is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Córcega es una isla en el mar Mediterráneo al
norte de Cerdeña. Es la cuarta isla más grande
del mar Mediterráneo con una superficie de 8700
km2. Su población es de 350.000 habitantes. Es
una región de Francia a la que se unió Córcega en
1768. La capital es Ajaccio, que es el lugar de
nacimiento de Napoleón Bonaparte. La segunda
ciudad más grande es Bastia. La presencia
permanente del hombre en la isla está documentada
desde aproximadamente el VI milenio a.C. Es la
isla más montañosa del Mediterráneo. El pico más
alto es el Monte Cinto con una altura de 2.706 m.
La isla tiene 183 km de largo y 83 km en su punto
más ancho. Más de un tercio de la isla está
formado por reservas naturales. El Parc Naturel
Regional de Corse, creado en 1972, protege
especies animales y vegetales raras. La Reserva
Natural de Scandola está inscrita en la Lista del
Patrimonio Mundial de la UNESCO.

od Sardínie. Je štvrtým najväcším ostrovom v
Stredozemnom mori s rozlohou 8700 km2. Pocet jeho
obyvatelov je 350 tisíc. Je regiónom Francúzska,
ku ktorému bola Korzika pripojená v roku 1768.
Hlavné mesto je Ajaccio, ktoré je rodiskom
Napoleona Bonaparte. Druhým najväcším mestom je
Bastia. Trvalá prítomnost cloveka na ostrove je
doložená približne od 6. tisícrocia pred n.l. Je
to najhornatejší ostrov v Stredozemnom mori.
Najvyšším vrchom je Monte Cinto s výškou 2 706 m.
Ostrov má dlžku 183 km a v najširšom mieste 83
km. Vyše tretinu ostrova tvoria prírodné
rezervácie. Parc Naturel Régional de Corse,
vytvorený v roku 1972 chráni vzácne živocíšne a
rastlinné druhy. Prírodná rezervácia Scandola je
zapísaná na zozname svetového dedicstva UNESCO.
