Sanitary pads vs tampons Which one to
use? Access to safe sanitary materials is
crucial to ensure menstrual health. The world has
progressed beyond our imagination.
Unfortunately, certain issues are still not
openly discussed which leads to a lack of
awareness among the less privileged. Menstruation
is a normal and healthy part of every womans
life, provided they are armed with enough
knowledge to manage their periods. Knowing what
products to use during periods is important in
managing your menstrual cycles
effectively. This article will shed light on two
of the most used menstrual products and their
benefits and disadvantages. What are sanitary
pads? Sanitary pads are one of the most common
menstrual hygiene products women use. For the
uninitiated, sanitary pads are absorbent pads
meant to absorb the menstrual blood. Sanitary
pads come with an adhesive at the back which can
be stuck to panties. They come in a variety of
sizes. There are short ones and long ones to
select from depending on your flow. If you have
a heavy flow, you can choose pads in XL sizes.
There are ultra-thin pads designed for light flow
days. You can use these pads when you just want
a small layer of protection to prevent the risk
of spotting on your outer garments. There are
pads designed for overnight use as well. From
regular pads to pads that cater to your unique
menstrual needs, you will find a wide variety
available in retail stores and online. Besides,
there are scented pads available in the market
that exude a pleasant fragrance. However,
scented pads must be used with caution. Scented
pads contain chemicals that disturb the natural
pH balance and cause irritation and allergic
reactions. What is a tampon? How to use
tampons? Tampons are little plugs of cotton that
are inserted inside the vagina. While sanitary
pads are worn externally, tampons are worn
inside. Tampons are small enough to fit in a
tiny pocket. They must be changed every 4 to 8
hours. One of the benefits of tampons is they
are suitable to be worn while swimming as they
can absorb menstrual flow without becoming
waterlogged. Like pads, tampons too come in
different absorbency levels, allowing women to
choose the right one for their flow. They are
discreet and not visible when worn properly.
However, TTS is one of the risks associated with
wearing tampons. TTS or Toxic Shock Syndrome is a
condition where you are affected by bacterial
infections. Not changing tampons regularly is
responsible for this condition. Tampons vs pad

Sanitary pads are a more comfortable option if
you just started getting your periods. Most
women find it uncomfortable to use tampons in the
initial phases of menstruation. However,
sanitary pads are not suitable if you are
involved in activities like swimming. The water
might get absorbed into the pads, making it
messy. Its up to you to decide whether you want
to use tampons or sanitary pads. Try both if you
want to the experience the benefits and
disadvantages yourself. Whatever product you use,
ensure they are safe, hygienic and does no harm
to your body. Apart from tampons and sanitary
pads, there are other products like menstrual
cups too. Choose one that is most comfortable for
you and ensure you are using it the right way.
