INTRODUCTION
A few months ago Torqeedo unveiled their
redesigned line of Travel electric outboards. All
the electric outboards in the series got a
makeover, but to us, the biggest news was the
additional of the Torqeedo Travel XP 1.6kW/5hp
electric outboard. We're excited about the
Torqeedo Travel XP because it's the first 5hp
electric outboard with an integrated battery that
fits right on top of the shaft. Until now, the
largest electric outboard with a battery that
fits on top of the shaft was 3hp. It's a great
option for customers who need an electric
outboard with little bit more power but don't
want the added cost and weight of a heavy
external battery.

HOW DOES THE BATTERY CONNECT TO THE TORQEEDO
TRAVEL XP 5HP ELECTRIC OUTBOARD?
Say goodbye to connecting your tiller and battery
to your electric outboard with cables! The new
Torqeedo Travel XP battery slips on to the shaft
of the electric outboard, and when you slide it
forwards, it connects the power and data port
between the battery and electric outboard.

HOW LONG DOES THE TORQEEDO TRAVEL XP BATTERY LAST?
The Torqeedo Travel XP 5hp electric outboard is a
1600W motor that comes with a 1425Wh battery. At
full throttle, the run time is about 47 minutes,
and at half throttle the run time is about one
hour and 34 minutes.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO CHARGE THE TORQEEDO
TRAVEL XP 5HP ELECTRIC OUTBOARD?
The Torqeedo Travel XP 5hp electric outboard now
comes with a 180 watt AC charger. It takes about
8 hours to charge the Torqeedo Travel XP battery
with the standard charger from 0 to 100. It can
also be charged with a 12v charger or solar
charge controller, but the charge times are
longer.

WHAT IS THE TILT AND TRIM MECHANISM LIKE ON THE
TORQEEDO TRAVEL XP 5HP ELECTRIC OUTBOARD?
We're excited about this part. I can't tell you
why it took until 2024 for Torqeedo to add
adjustable trim angles, but they finally have!
The Torqeedo Travel XP 5hp electric outboard now
features and anti-grounding mode, where the motor
can be down but not locked, so it pops up in the
event of a grounding. There are also two shallow
water trim angles on the Torqeedo Travel XP,
where the prop is still in the water but is
partially up.

IS THE TORQEEDO TRAVEL XP 5HP ELECTRIC OUTBOARD
TILLER BUILT IN? IS THERE A REMOTE THROTTLE
OPTION?
Yes, unlikely the older version of the Torqeedo
Travel, the tiller is now built in. It can also
be angled upward significantly, which is
important for some sailors, as the electric
outboard's tiller hitting the transom can be an
issue. It's also possible to adjust the friction
of the tiller, so it can stay tilted up when you
take your hand off of it.

IS THERE A STEERING LOCK ON THE TORQEEDO TRAVEL
XP 5HP ELECTRIC OUTBOARD? IS THE STEERING
FRICTION ADJUSTABLE?
There is a steering lock, and unlike the older
Torqeedo Travel models, you don't need to remove
the battery to put in a locking pin. It is just a
button on the back of the shaft! The steering
friction is also adjustable.

DOES THE TORQEEDO TRAVEL XP 5HP ELECTRIC OUTBOARD
HAVE BUILT IN BLUETOOTH, GPS OR WIFI?
Yes, all of the new Torqeedo Travel electric
outboard motors have built in Bluetooth, GPS and
WiFi. Using Torqeedo's app, you can connect your
smartphone to your Torqeedo outboard and push
updates into your motor. In the past, you would
need to bring your Torqeedo electric outboard to
a Torqeedo dealer in order to update the electric
outboard.

ARE THERE CAPS FOR THE PORTS ON THE TORQEEDO
TRAVEL XP 5HP ELECTRIC OUTBOARD?
Yes! The lack of covers for the power and data
ports on the older Torqeedo Travel motors was
something we were not happy about. Now there are
caps for the charging port on the battery as well
as the power/data port on the electric outboard
itself.
