The Albert Memorial, situated in Kensington
Gardens, was designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott
in the Gothic Revival style and was opened in
July 1872 Memorialul Printului Albert aflat în
Hyde Park a fost proiectat de Gilbert Scott în
stil gotic victorian si a fost terminat în anul
1872.

The Albert Memorial was commissioned by Queen
Victoria in memory of her beloved husband, Prince
Albert who died of typhoid in 1861. Printul

Queen Victoria married her first cousin, Prince
Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, in 1840. Their
nine children and 26 of their 34 grandchildren
who survived childhood married into royal and

together and earning her the nickname "the

The gilt bronze memorial statue of Albert, by
John Henry Foley and Thomas Brock was
ceremonially "seated" in 1875, three years after
the memorial opened. His statue holds a catalogue
of the Great Exhibition, and is robed as a Knight
of the Garter. Statuia Printului Albert,

The central part of the Memorial is surrounded by
the elaborate sculptural Frieze of Parnassus
(named after Mount Parnassus, the favorite
resting place for the Greek muses), which depicts
169 individual painters, composers, architects,
poets, and sculptors. Memorialul Printului

The form of the monument "is clearly derived"
from the Gothic Scaliger Tombs outside a church
in Verona. Albert's memorial was appropriately
erected opposite the Royal Albert Hall, near the
location of the Exhibition of 1851. The memorial
was commissioned by Queen Victoria as a tribute

The memorial consists of an ornate canopy or
pavilion, in the style of a Gothic ciborium over
the high altar of a church, containing a statue
of the prince facing south. Monumentul

The Memorial is rife with allegory. There are 169
pieces of statuary figures incorporated into the
design the four outer corners depict Africa,
Asia, America, and Europe, while above Albert's
head are Agriculture, Manufacture, Engineering,
and Commerce. The pinnacle, which extends to 175
feet above the base, is bestrewn with more
allegorical figures, including Faith, Hope,
Charity, and Humility nearest the top. Albert
