Signs of Skin Cancer Affecting Foot and Ankle

tanning beds. It may also be linked to certain
genetic factors and medical conditions. People
with fair skin, light-colored eyes, and a history
of. sunburns are at a higher risk of developing
skin cancer
Skin cancer is the abnormal growth of skin
cells. It most commonly develops in areas that
are exposed to the sun, but can also occur in
other areas that are not typically exposed such
as the feet and ankles.

Prevention
Treatment
Treatment options for skin cancer of the foot and
ankle depend on the type, size, depth, and
location of the tumor. In most cases, surgery is
the primary treatment method to remove the
cancerous cells. Our podiatry team will work
closely with you to determine the best treatment
plan for your specific case.
The best way to prevent skin cancer is by
avoiding excessive exposure to UV radiation. This
includes wearing sunscreen with at least SPF 30,
covering up exposed areas with clothing, and
seeking shade when outdoors. Regular
self-examinations and routine skin cancer
screenings by a healthcare professional are also
crucial in early detection.
